Noah Mahogany Soprano

…it reminds me very much of the Kiwaya mahogany sopranos (which will cost you significantly more). All in all, Noah have done to me what they always do – listen, and get better with each new model that comes my way. If you are fan of mahogany trad sopranos (as I am) this is bang on the money and delivers very nicely. They are also a nice, small company to buy from and this a uke that ‘feels’ more real too rather than factory production line stuff.

Description

The Noah Mahogany Soprano has been a real staple of the Noah range for a number of years. It was originally reviewed back in 2017 on Got A Ukulele, receiving an impressive score of 8.8 out of 10. It has proved very popular with ukulele players who are looking for that classic Soprano sound. The all-solid Mahogany construction gives it a really full tone, with plenty of volume when strummed, but also making it nice and responsive when finger-picking.

We have now made some small but important changes to the design, which we believe has made this even better. These changes have been guided by feedback from various people over the years, including Barry Maz (in his original Got A Ukulele review back in 2017) and Matt Hicks, who has been a regular performer at UK ukulele festivals over the years.

Perhaps the most notable change is that this ukulele now comes with friction tuners, which we think suit the Soprano better than the geared tuners which we previously used. The body is slightly smaller, though the nut width has increased to a roomier 37mm. The neck is made from a beautiful maple wood, and the soundhole rosette has changed to a wooden inlaid herringbone style ring.

This updated version was reviewed in January 2024 on Got A Ukulele, and received an even higher overall score of 9.1 out of 10 and lots of lovely comments. Here is Barry Maz’s summary in this updated review:

All in all, Noah have done to me what they always do – listen, and get better with each new model that comes my way. If you are fan of mahogany trad sopranos (as I am) this is bang on the money and delivers very nicely. Bought a soprano mahogany at GNUF and must say it’s a nice, nice uke. Easy to play, excellent construction and a tone that started mellow, sweet with good volume and has improved with playing. Great uke.

I have had my Mahogany Soprano for just a few days but find myself playing it at every opportunity. It is beautifully made and the sound is sweet and captivating. I am really enjoying it and am very pleased I bought it from Matt. Thank you Matt.

I have had a monkeypod tenor for the last 18 months and I would thoroughly recommend it, it lends itself to any type of music be it strumming or fingerpicking, it is a well made instrument, and very good value, so much so that I have just purchased a mahogany soprano, which again is a very well made instrument and for its size has a good all round tone capable of holding its own in a crowd, I don’t think you will be disappointed if you purchase any of the noah range, these are not factory made, so no two will look alike, and in this price range you can’t go wrong.

After some time playing tenor and concert size ukes I decided to purchase my first soprano sized ukulele from Matt at Noah ukes. I chose satin mahogany as I wanted a warm traditional sound and I am not disappointed, the build quality is excellent, it has the feel of a custom build rather than a sterile factory build and the tone is just what I was hoping for – well worth the money !

I have been playing my new soprano ukulele for a week now, absolutely love it. Quality through and through.

A lovely instrument! It looks and sounds beautiful. The service, as ever, from Noah was outstanding. The review from Barry Maz on GotaUkulele was spot on. I am extremely happy with it.
