I bought a Noah Guitalele six weeks ago – great sound, intonation is perfect and it records really well. You can buy cheaper but if you’re fussy about tuning then a pro instrument is essential, and this Noah Guitalele ticks all the boxes

Frank Mizen, musician and producer. Frank Mizen bought a Guitalele recently and has been so happy with it that he recently emailed to say that he’s now planning to buy a Noah Soprano and Concert!

Description

As someone who has played guitar since I was a child, I was intrigued about having a six string instrument, which would be easy to carry around and take with me on holiday – so step forward the Noah Guitalele! We’ve used solid Monkeypod for this, largely because this has been such a popular wood for our ukuleles, and a Maple neck. The fingerboard has 20 frets, and joins the body at the 14th fret. In terms of tuning, there is a degree of flexibility here – you can tune it to G or to the more standard guitalele tuning of A. This instrument will hopefully appeal to both ukulele and guitar players alike who are looking for something a bit different to what they already have. It received a really positive review from Barry Maz on his Got a Ukulele website.

These ukes are fabulous. I purchased a 6 string guitalele a few weeks ago and it’s already earning it’s keep in more ways than I expected. I compose and record library music in our studio and this little thing has turned a few heads I can tell you. It’s so versatile across a huge range of musical styles. So I added a Mahogany Concert to the collection last week and again it’s exceeded my expectations. Apart from all the obvious compliments of great sound & tuning, finish, playability, construction etc., the one thing that really stands out to me is the quality of the machine heads on both ukes. The Guitalele has a traditional slotted headstock with classical style tuners & the Concert has flat stock with modern geared tuners. They’re both so smooth, frictionless, and accurate with no play whatsoever making tuning a breeze. These are real quality components, often overlooked when sourcing out parts, but these are better than the heads on some of my “famous” instruments costing well over 4 figures. I’ll be back soon for a Concert with the pick-up option. Well done Matt. Fantastic quality at an affordable price.

I bought the Guitalele and I am absolutely delighted with it.Not only is it a beautiful looking instrument , it is a delight to play. My one regret – I didn’t find my way to this instrument earlier! To my mind, great value for the money.
Toying with the idea of buying the tenor model next!!!

Some days ago I received a very beautiful monkeypod guitalele with a gloss finish and a cutaway that I ordered online because I live in Switzerland. It is exactly as I expected and I really enjoy what it looks and sounds like. I play everything on it that I also play on the acoustic guitar. For me, it sounds a bit happier than my acoustic guitar what I really enjoy. With the right strings it would be possible to tune it down to an EBGDAE tuning but I wouldn’t recommend it. The quality is excellent. I’m really happy with it.

Many thanks Matt, the guitarlele arrived today and I’ve been having a good play.

I do like the nut width which gives greater string spacing and so more room on the fret board than the Yamaha GL1 that I’ve been playing until now. Not only that the neck is shallow enough to comfortably get the thumb over which the Yamaha’s is not!

So my first impression is very positive.

There are other things I like as well:

The fret board is lovely and slick feeling and the neck very comfortable.

The sound is really sweet with bags of sustain.

It’s very pretty, I’m enjoying the monkey pod.

I guess I’m not going to be putting it down for a good while.

    Noah Guitalele
I took delivery of my Noah guitalele in December 2021.
I mainly play guitar but a few years ago I purchased a guitalele from another (unnamed) manufacturer. I found it really fun to play but the quality of the instrument is not high and so I decided that it was time for an upgrade.

I chose a Noah after reading and watching reviews online and opted for a monkeypod wood with cutaway in a gloss finish.
The instrument looks stunning, the grain reminiscent of koa, the back book matched and the body double bound with a light wood.
I didn’t expect the rosewood fingerboard to be figured but it really adds to the look of the instrument.
The finish itself is acceptable but on close inspection some marks are visible, also although the inside of the body was clean and free from glue squeeze-out the sides would have benefited from some additional sanding.
The neck and finger board were well finished with no sharp fret ends.

When you play the instrument the quality really shines through, the fretboard is wide and very flat, it almost feels like you are playing a classical guitar and it has a lovely rounded tone. Tuning was very easy thanks to the quality tuners and the intonation being spot on. The nut and saddle were set well and the action very good for such a small instrument.

All in all I am very happy with my purchase, it plays and sounds like a much more expensive instrument. I am sure that this guitalele will get used far more than my previous one.

I am absolutely delighted with my new guitalele which arrived, as promised, two working days after it was ordered, carefully and securely packed. It is a very handsome instrument, clearly hand made with care and attention to detail and the gloss finish is applied evenly, showcasing the beautiful grain of the monkeypod tonewood. It plays easily straight out of the box, intonation is accurate and the sound is sweet and sustained. And congratulations to Matt, again, for his excellent service.
